Kansai paint is soft
Lexus Kansai paint looks deep from the factory and marks easily. Owners describe dark colors as "butter soft." Microfiber drying can still leave swirls. The same softness that polishes well for PPF prep also chips fast without film.
Chips show up early
RX owners report chips by 1,500 miles. GX 550 owners see chips in the first week. IS owners describe hoods that look sandblasted after a few months of highway driving. Front bumper, hood, and fender edges go first. Full front XPEL PPF installed at delivery prevents most of it.
Premium colors are hard to match
Structural Blue on the LC 500 uses a layered pigment process, and Lexus paints only two cars per day in it. Incognito, Nori Green Pearl, and multi-layer Sonic finishes are also expensive to match at a body shop. Full body PPF keeps these finishes off the repair list.
Carbon fiber roof yellows in UV
LC 500 carbon fiber roof panels use a thin clear coat over the carbon weave. Florida sun breaks that clear down over a few years, and the weave yellows permanently. PPF blocks the UV and prevents the damage.
Safety System+ tint around the camera
Lexus Safety System+ uses a windshield-mounted camera for pre-collision and lane-departure warnings. We cut XPEL PRIME XR PLUS tint around the camera housing so driver-assist stays working.
Rock chips need real repair first

Is Lexus paint really that soft?

Can you tint the GX's smart-glass panoramic roof?
No. The Dynamic Sky panoramic roof on the GX 550 Luxury+ trim switches between clear and frosted on command. Tint could interfere with that function. We tint the fixed glass for privacy and heat rejection and leave the smart glass alone.
