McLaren Protection
McLaren builds some of the most complex body surfaces in the automotive world. The paint is soft. The geometry is extreme. The exhaust heat melts film that isn't properly planned for. We understand these vehicles well enough to protect them without creating new problems.
• Why McLaren Needs Protection
Factory Paint That Arrives Imperfect
McLarens often leave the factory with sanding marks, swirls, and orange peel. The water-based paint is softer than most exotics, so correction before PPF needs a careful touch — dual-action polishers, paint thickness readings on every panel, and patience. Skip it and those defects live under the film forever.
Exhaust Heat Destroys Rear PPF
The mid-engine twin-turbo layout generates extreme heat at the rear bumper. PPF applied too close to exhaust tip openings melts, bubbles, and discolors — a well-known problem on McLarens. We use strategic cutbacks around exhaust openings and ceramic coating in the heat-affected zones.
Those Doors Make Everything Harder
McLaren's doors swing outward and upward without stopping halfway, which limits how we can access the panels during installation. The carbon fiber door sills need careful removal and reinstallation, and film on the lower door edges wears from getting in and out of the car. These vehicles take more time and planning than anything with regular doors.
Active Aero Needs Room to Move
Most current McLarens have active rear spoilers, and the W1 adds an active front wing. PPF can't cross the hinge points — patterns have to account for the full range of movement. It's a mechanical concern as much as a cosmetic one.

• Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the paint need correction on a brand new car?
+
McLarens are hand-built, and the paint can still arrive with sanding marks, swirl marks, and orange peel. If we put film over those flaws, they stay there. We correct the paint first and check paint thickness on each panel before any film goes on.
Will the PPF melt near the exhaust?
+
It can. The rear bumper on a mid-engine McLaren gets very hot. We stop the film short of the exhaust tips and use XPEL Fusion Plus ceramic coating in the hottest areas instead. That protects the paint without setting the film up to fail.
What about MSO paint — can you wrap over that?
+
Yes, and you should. MSO finishes are rare and expensive to repair, and dealer touch-ups can cost a lot. Full-body PPF on any McLaren is $5,999 gloss or $6,499 STEALTH. That is a small cost compared with a full repaint.
How do those doors affect the install?
+
McLaren's doors swing up and out, so they make the install slower and harder to reach. The carbon fiber door sills need careful removal and reinstallation, and the lower door edges take more wear from getting in and out. We plan for that so the finished coverage stays clean.
Won't the film mess with the active aero?
+
Not when it is installed right. Most current McLarens have moving rear spoilers, and the W1 adds a moving front wing. We cut the film so it clears all moving parts when they are fully open. If film gets in the way, it can cause real issues.
How long does a full-body PPF job actually take?
+
A full-body install on a 750S or Artura takes much longer than a typical car because of the body shape, door design, and heat near the exhaust. Full front is $2,799, full body gloss is $5,999, and STEALTH matte is $6,499. We give McLarens the time they need. Ceramic coating is $2,200 and saves 10% when bundled.
What tint works best with the Gorilla Glass?
+
XPEL PRIME XR PLUS ceramic tint on all side glass. McLaren's door windows use Gorilla Glass, so we handle them with extra care. Most owners leave the rear engine cover glass untinted for visibility, and we recommend ceramic tint that can handle the heat behind a mid-engine car.
